OUR OUTREACH PROJECTS

SABBATARIAN BIBLE COLLEGE

HISTORY

Since the 1930’s The Seventh Day Baptist movement based in New Zealand, has carried out evangelical work in Malawi.

This initially was spearheaded by Pr Ron Barrar with the support of his brother Pastor Daniel Barrar and in later years was overseen by Pr Ian Ingoe.

SABBATARIAN BIBLE COLLEGE

This outreach takes the form of a Bible College, at Lunzu outside Blantyre, which trains local men to be Pastors.  It is a three year, live in course and the students come mainly from Malawi and Mozambique but there have been a few from Zambia.  Apart from their theological training, the students are taught many basic skills for living which they can then pass on to their people.

CONFERENCE OF CHURCHES

The College acts as a focus for and co-coordinating body for approximately 50 churches.  Various Boards oversee different areas of ministry.   The churches hold a Conference every year which several hundred people attend, for fellowship, worship and to discuss issues etc.

PROJECTS

FiG, along with the Churches in New Zealand and scattered brethren, has actively supported this outreach for 20 years, with provision of funds for many projects such as providing tin for church roofs, wells, a bore and storage tank for water, bicycles for Pastors, hymn books etc. We helped build a Clinic at Jandala and a school in the same region and another clinic at Makapua.

PHILOSOPHY

The philosophy of the College is to encourage self sufficiency within the people with their active participation in the projects. The people provide the labour and the College helps with materials. This provides a sense of ownership and pride in the project.

ANCHOR OF HOPE SCHOOL

Recently a primary school, The Anchor of Hope, has been built in the vicinity of the College, It is educating about 100 children from Kindergarten to Grade 8.

ENCOURAGING SELF-SUFFICIENCY

Recently, a series of houses has been built which will be rented so that the College can have an income and become self-sufficient. Obviously we will continue to give support in major projects.
